Mandatory Suspension of All Outdoor Watering Effective Immediately

To protect the integrity of the water system and ensure adequate water supplies remain available for essential domestic use and fire protection, all WTCPUA customers are required to immediately discontinue all outdoor watering, irrigation, and other non-essential water use through at least Friday, July 24, 2026.

Due to recent flooding across Central Texas, significant amounts of sediment, silt, and other particulate matter have entered the Highland Lakes system. The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has activated floodstage operations and is continuing to release water at Mansfield Dam and through Tom Miller Dam which further impacts raw water conditions on Lake Austin.

As the WTCPUA water treatment plant draws water from Lake Austin, significantly more frequent filter cleaning and backwashing is required to maintain drinking water quality standards. While drinking water remains safe, these conditions have temporarily reduced the plant’s overall production capacity.

To help ensure water supplies remain available for essential daily needs and fire protection, all customers must immediately discontinue all outdoor irrigation and other non-essential outdoor water use. Essential uses include water for drinking, cooking, bathing, sanitation, and other household needs.

LCRA has reported that conditions throughout the watershed remain dynamic and could change rapidly with additional rainfall or increased inflows. Additional floodgate operations may become necessary. Our operations team is monitoring raw water conditions and treatment plant performance around the clock and is making operational adjustments as needed.

An update will be provided to customers on Friday, July 24, 2026, regarding system conditions, ongoing flood operations, and whether these emergency restrictions can be lifted.
